Admission FAQs

List of 8 frequently asked questions.

  • Q: Who Can Apply to Hanger Hall?

Any rising or current sixth, seventh, and eighth-grade girl can apply for admission to Hanger Hall. We are seeking a diverse student population with students who bring a range of interests, backgrounds, and strengths to our middle school. We hope to enroll students who have the desire to participate fully in our program and parents who are willing to support their children and the school in a variety of ways.
  • Q: How do you make your admissions decisions?

Our goal is for each student to have a fulfilling and successful experience at Hanger Hall. We strive to make thoughtful admission decisions and evaluate whether our school’s mission and program are a good match for each applicant.
Admission decisions are individually determined and are based upon past school performance, teacher recommendations, and parent and student interviews. Interested applicants spend one full day shadowing a current student, during which time teacher observations, as well as assessments in math and language arts are collected to be considered in the admissions decision.
Criteria for admissions to Hanger Hall include:
    • Grade-level or above academic achievement (based on our assessments and transcripts)
    • Satisfactory teacher recommendations reflecting an individual’s character and work ethic
    • Parent(s) interview with the Head of School
    • Successful day of shadowing
    • IEP/504 plan reviewed if applicable
    • In some circumstances, we might need to ask for additional evaluations and/or information prior to accepting/enrolling a student. Any extra assessment or evaluation that utilizes a community professional would be at parents’ expense.
  • Q: Is anyone given priority in the admission process?

Siblings of current and past Hanger Hall families are given enrollment priority as space is available in each of the classes. Consideration will only be given to those students who have met the criteria for acceptance and those families who are in good standing with the school.

As in the case of siblings, children of faculty members will be given enrollment priority if they have met the criteria for acceptance.
  • Q: What happens once my child is accepted?

Applicants and their family are notified by mail and email of their acceptance. Parents will receive an enrollment contract and tuition agreement to be signed and returned to the school along with the required deposit. Once these items have been returned to Hanger Hall, the applicant will be considered enrolled.
  • Q: Do you have a waitlist?

If an applicant meets the criteria for admission, but is applying for enrollment in a grade that is full, the student will be placed in the wait pool for her grade level. The wait pool does not imply a“first listed/first served” commitment on the part of the school. When vacancies do occur, the Head of School and Director of Admissions will select students from the wait pool based on a variety of criteria.
  • Q: What is conditional enrollment?

If a student meets most admissions criteria, but has significant challenges, enrollment might be contingent upon the parents’ willingness to provide additional support (such as tutoring and/or counseling) at the family’s expense. Such an agreement would be included in the enrollment contract.

During the early admissions process should it be determined that an applicant is incomplete in one or more assessment areas, Hanger Hall may choose to place the applicant in the wait pool with a reassessment in the spring. At that time, if the applicant has demonstrated growth in these areas they will be offered admission contingent upon availability.
  • Q: Can you offer my family financial aid?

The ability to offer enrollment to a child who needs financial support will be contingent upon the availability of financial aid. All families who will need tuition assistance should request the forms and complete them by the stated deadlines.
  • Q: Do you accept new students mid-year?

New students may be accepted, provided there is space, until the first week of the second semester (first week of January). We do not encourage transfers after that date except in unusual circumstances. Tuition is prorated for those students coming to Hanger Hall after the school year has begun.
