Amy Aiken

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Hello, my name is Amy Aiken, and I love to move and play!  As the Athletics teacher at Hanger Hall, my goal is to foster a love for movement, play, and health and well-being in every Hanger Hall girl.

I have worn a variety of hats since graduating from the College of William and Mary in 2002, including teaching middle school science and experiential/adventure education.  Some of my favorite moments include teaching environmental science along the shores of the Chesapeake Bay, leading cycling trips on Prince Edward Island, teaching rock climbing in the Swiss Alps, leading kayak trips in New Mexico, and coaching track in Richmond, VA.  I am a certified ropes course instructor and have led programs for over 15 years.

I also have a Masters in Public Health degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and I am a Registered Dietitian.  I am passionate about food, nutrition, and healthy communities, all of which compliment my love for being active.

More than anything, I want Hanger Hall girls to be active every day and have fun doing so.  I want my class to have girls trying new activities, gaining confidence in their physical abilities, and unleashing energy all while enjoying themselves.

Outside of Hanger Hall, you are likely to see me playing with my two kiddos and husband, running, or at the farmers’ market.  I also spend time reading, gardening, hiking, cooking and baking, and trying new sports.  You are not likely to see me sitting still!

Hanger Hall COVID-19 Updates

Hanger Hall Health & Safety

As a small school with small class sizes , we are confident in our capability to implement all health and safety recommendations to ensure a safe reopening, given the current guidance received from federal, state, and local levels of government.  Hanger Hall’s highest priority is the health and safety of our students, families, faculty and staff.

Our efforts to prepare for the upcoming school year is led by Hanger Hall’s leadership team under the guidance of a COVID-19 task force, comprised of Hanger Hall Staff, Board Members and Parent Volunteers who are in the Healthcare Field.  To support this priority, safety protocols will be in place for the 2020-21 school year.

This team is working over the summer to develop a variety of mitigation measures that will be implemented in classrooms, along with various contingency models so that Hanger Hall is prepared to support any COVID-!( related scenario within our school community.

Please visit this page regularly to receive additional communication related to school reopening that will be shared over the coming weeks.

One of the guiding principles in the development of Hanger Hall’s plan has always been to closely adhere to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s guidelines for the reopening of schools as well as public health guidance issued by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services. You can find these health and safety protocols in our handbook and updates will be made here.
