Teacher Spotlight: Meg Winnecour

Our next teacher spotlight is #HangerHall's Art Teacher, Meg Winnecour. The 2021-2022 school year will be her 9th year at Hanger Hall.

Some of her favorite reads include Orion magazine's summer issue, My Grandmother's Hands, by Resma Menachem, and The Man Who Quit Money, by Mark Sundeen. Her all-time favorite books include Holy the Firm and Pilgrim at Tinker Creek by Annie Dillard.

She describes the Hanger Hall community as supportive, justice-oriented, creative, open-minded, progressive, and fun.

She adds that the benefits of attending an all-girls school include being a place where female-identifying folks can come let their guard down while growing into the adult versions of themselves. She adds that all-girls schools are about having a safe place to try out aspects of yourself and value system outside of the pressures of the wider society. A place where there are plenty of loving women around to help when things inevitably get messy, a place where everyone (fellow students, staff, and community) is rooting for you to grow into the best version of yourself.
Her advice to potential Hanger Hall students is to do a shadow day. Spend the day with the students and teachers, and see if it feels right. It will most likely feel like home right away!

Her advice to graduating 8th graders is to remember your fully-stocked toolbox; it's always with you. In there, you've got everything you need to succeed: the love and support of your teachers, HH classmates, and family, excellent study skills and learner habits, creativity, and the bravery and curiosity to use it. You're all set: now go have an adventure!
