John Volquez is the newest member of the Hanger Hall Board of Directors. He was born and raised in the South Bronx, and first arrived in Asheville in 2009 when he enrolled as a Freshman at the Asheville School—a small boarding high school in the city. He went on to earn a B.A. in Ethics, Politics, and Economics from Yale University in 2017. He then worked at Lazard Freres and Co. in New York City for two years as an Investment Banker in the Power, Energy and Infrastructure group. John currently holds the position of Artist in Residence at his alma mater, the Asheville School, where he is living on dorm with students while working to complete his first book and screenplay.
John joined the Hanger Hall board in August 2020 after being volunteered by a fellow board member due to his long-held passion for education and improving the academic experience for young adults around the world. He is thrilled to be on board as a new member and looks forward to a successful first year at Hanger Hall.
In his spare time, John enjoys reading, watching basketball, and traveling around the country and the world. His favorite destinations are the Dominican Republic, where his family is from, and Italy, where he studied abroad for several months while at Yale.
