At Hanger Hall we strive to instill in our girls the value of community service. Beginning in 6th grade, girls are required to complete 18 hours of community service a year. Marijo Simpson manages our community service initiatives and coordinates opportunities with several groups in Asheville. Last year the girls committed a great amount of time to the Manna Food Bank (we even joined forces with the boys of the French Broad River Academy for one of our sessions.) In addition the girls sewed pillows for the patients of Care Partner Hospice. While Marijo coordinates the school-wide activities, girls are also welcome to complete their hours on their own or with their families.
Last year our 8th grade classes became introduced to the Western North Caroina Community Foundation and specifically their “Women to Women Program”. Our girls attended their “Power of the Purse” luncheon in May and had the opportunity to hear and meet Jennifer Buffet, co-chair of the NoVo Foundation. We look to continue our relationship with Women to Women porgram and support their volunteer and fundraising activities.
Hanger Hall is a partner with RiverLink responsible for a part of the French Broad River along Emma Avenue (and Craven Street.)
